Our Critters FAQ Q: How long have you been doing rescue? A: We have been doing this for about 8 years all together. We have been doing this as a business for 2 years. We are considered an animal retraining & placement business. We are not just a quote “rescue”! Q: Where do we get our animals? A:We pull them from kill shelters and we also take owner surrendered animals. Q: Are there costs involved for you as a private rescue when you pull an animal from a kill shelter? A: Yes, most animal shelters/pound can charge us anywhere from $25-$90 just to pull a dog out. Q: Why are we not a 501(c) non profit registered rescue! A: We would rather do things as a registered business for now. We are really are too small and those resources are better served to those who do rescue on a large scale. For now we file our taxes and pay in just like any other normal business. Q: Why do you charge an adoption fee and why is it so high? A:We charge an adoption fee to ensure that our animals are going to a good home. First and foremost if you can't afford a minimal adoption fee then how can we expect you to take care of the animal? Our fees are not high, honestly they are the exact opposite. Some animal rescue groups charge around $250 OR MORE. I will ask you to think of it this way. Normally at a regular vet you would pay close to $200 to have a female dog spayed! At a regular vet it would cost you no less than $60 for vaccinations...and just think puppies have to have 3 boosters 28 days apart! That would be $150/$200 alone for just shots for a pup. You also have to consider the cost of heart worm testing, de-worming etc. If you can do math you can see what a bargain it would be to adopt one of our dogs. You sure can't take a free dog and have all the work done that we have for $130.00! Q: Why do you charge an application fee? Well to be honest and to be blunt, my time is as important as anyone else's. The application fee is to weed out the people who have nothing better to do than waste my time. If there is a fee attached then I am assured only the serious applicants will apply! Q: Do we give refunds on the adoption fees? A: NO, all fees are non refundable. We will however let you try another dog if you wish. This is stated in the contract. Q: If I can't keep the adopted animal any longer can I re home it myself? A: The answer is NO. In the contract it states that if the animal does not work out that the adopter is to bring it back to Our Critters at the adopters expense. Q: What is included for the adoption fee? A: All animals will be spayed/neutered. They will be current on vet documented vaccinations, hw tested, de-wormed. Some will even have some training! You can bet that we will know all the animal's plus and negative points by the time it is adopted. Q: If I adopt a puppy/cat from you will it be potty/litter box trained? A: Well yes and no! A youngster will need to be reminded right from wrong from time to time. We do try to start all puppies on potty training and kittens with litter box training before it leaves. It will be up to you to complete the potty/litter box training. Kittens are generally easier to train. They more or less train themselves.
